CTRL + PLAY: Malaysian Arked Leveled Up!

LUMSoc hosted the Malaysian Arked at the Leeds University Union and the Parkinson's Building on the 1st of December 2024, bringing a much-needed break and a perfect remedy for academic fatigue with a day filled with games, laughter and relaxation.
The event spotlighted some of the classic traditional Malaysian childhood games like Congkak, Batu Seremban, Ceper, and Timbang Bulu Ayam, sparking joy and nostalgia among all participants of the event. For many, these games rekindled memories of childhood back in Malaysia, while for others, it was a delightful introduction to the richness of Malaysian culture, offering a unique opportunity to learn, play and bond with others.
But Malaysian Arked did not stop at tradition, it also added a modern twist, where the PS5 multiplayer battles became a hotspot of energy and excitement, with games like Tekken and FC 24 drawing in competitive spirits. The day reached a fever pitch with the FC25 tournament, where participants battled it out and brought their A-game for a chance to claim £45 prize pool. And let’s not forget the adrenaline-filled watch party for the Liverpool vs Manchester City match, where everyone united in excitement.

LUMSoc Winter Solstice x Christmas Celebration!
Wrapping up the first semester with festive joy!
December brought warmth and festive cheer as LUMSoc hosted the enchanting Winter Solstice x Christmas 2024, an evening that beautifully combined the traditions of Winter Solstice with the magic of Christmas. On December 13th, Common Ground in LUU buzzed with excitement as attendees gathered to celebrate the season with a heartwarming blend of culture and community.
The evening began with a feast for the senses, featuring a specially curated menu that showcased the perfect harmony of Asian and Western flavors. From the sweet and comforting tang yuan to classic festive roasts, every dish brought a sense of home and holiday joy. With vegan and halal options, everyone found something to savor and enjoy.
Adding to the festive atmosphere were lively team games that brought out competitive energy and laughter, as attendees bonded over shared challenges and playful rivalries. The tang yuan-making activity became a favorite, offering a hands-on cultural experience that brought friends and strangers closer together.
The night wouldn’t have been complete without the winter-themed photo wall, where spontaneous smiles and candid moments were captured, creating lasting memories for all. Live performances filled the venue with music and warmth, providing the perfect backdrop for an evening of joy and connection.
